Purpose From Birth

Today’s my birthday and that made me think about the last eighteen years of my life. I have been alive for 6,575 days. When I view the days as a number, it doesn’t seem like much time has passed. But when I think about all the little moments that made me who I am today, it feels like I’ve been alive for an eternity.

Maybe you feel the same way. It’s most likely not your birthday today, but you can still take time to reflect on the years behind you and the years to go. I think it can be scary looking back sometimes. You don’t want to re-feel certain events or perhaps you wish your life could be as joyful as it once was. However you may feel about thinking about your past, know that it is a unique past built just for you. No one else has gone through exactly what you went through. No one has the same memories as you. No one is even remotely like you.

Romans 12:2 (NLT) says, “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.”

We aren’t copies of other people. We are our own person with our own past and our own birth story. We were brought into this world with a purpose. Even if you feel like you are unworthy of life, of living and breathing and having a purpose, you already have one. Your purpose is far greater than anything you could imagine for your life.

We were made unique from the beginning, our experiences have shaped us into the people we are today, and God has a plan for your life. Remember that God is a good God even if your life has shown otherwise. Your purpose might not be easy and you probably don’t know what it is, but God made us who we are for a reason and the obstacles we have overcome have only made us stronger.

  1. First off, Happy Birthday!
Second off, what a great blog “entry” for me to read first. I tell my students this message all the time. You are the only You for a reason. You are supposed to be here for a purpose not even revealed yet. I usually tie it to a bullying message because I want them to understand why it makes no sense for making fun of someone because they aren’t like them. That shouldn’t want people like them. I love that you are sharing a positive message with young people. I am so proud of you, proud that you are following your passion.
