Invaluable

This month we talked about what it means to be made human. We talked about uniqueness, how to be authentic, finding purpose, and what it actually means to be human. To conclude the month, I think it’s helpful to understand what we mean to God.

In Luke 12:6-7 NLT it says, “What is the price of five sparrows- two copper coins? Yet God does not forget a single one of them. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.”

In this verse God is placing value on the sparrows and value on people. He is saying that the birds were bought at a small price whereas humans are so valuable to God that He numbered the hairs on their head. Romans 5:8 NLT explains just how much we are worth to God. It says “But God showed his great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners.” While we were still sinners God sent his son to die for us so that we could be with God. Jesus paid the ultimate price for our sakes. That is why we are more valuable than the animals of the earth and the birds in the sky. God gave up His most valuable possession for us which is why we are called to do the same.

If you are a parent, it would most likely seem unbelievable how anyone could sacrifice their child. If you aren’t a parent, imagine giving up your most valued possession. That could be a relationship with a friend, your phone, your need for control, or something else. God gave his most valued possession up to save us.

What in your life is stopping you from going all in with God? What possession or relationship is taking up the space where God should be? You are human. You can’t do it all. You need God in your life to give you strength.

In order to embrace all that we have discussed this month, we have to lay down our lives for Christ. We have to give our best yes to God and sacrifice the possession(s) that is getting in between our relationship with God. If you want to give your life to Christ or redeem your life, read this verse with me.

“Today the Lord your God has commanded you to obey all these decrees and regulations. So be careful to obey them wholeheartedly. You have declared today that the Lord is your God. And you have promised to walk in his ways, and to obey his decrees, commands, and regulations, and to do everything he tells you. The Lord has declared today that you are his people, his own special treasure, just as he promised, and that you must obey all his commands. And if you do, he will set you high above all the other nations he has made. Then you will receive praise, honor, and renown. You will be a nation that is holy to the Lord your God, just as he promised.” Deuteronomy 26:16-19 NLT
