Focus on the Feeling

Life can be so busy sometimes that we forget to focus on what’s important. It’s always go to school, go to work, go to sports practice and be in this club and do this activity so that you don’t get behind. In a world that’s so intent on getting ahead, sometimes we feel like we were left behind.

Can you imagine going a day without having to worry? Can you imagine ditching work and chores to just sit down and breathe? Sometimes we would rather have stuff to do than to sit alone with our thoughts. Why? Because facing ourselves is scary. We are afraid of what our emotions will bring up. But what’s important in a fast-paced world is making time to sit and just be. When we can be present with ourselves and process life, we will become better equipped for the day.

So if being present is so important, why do we avoid it? We feel like we are being lazy. We feel unproductive and that sitting and thinking is a waste of time or perhaps even selfish. Despite how we feel about having time for ourselves, we need to understand that it’s important.

Your mental health matters. There needs to be balance in your life. Don’t just focus on what you can see, focus on the unseen. That means taking time each day to sit and think about how you are feeling, what you are feeling and why you are feeling the way that you are. Then, you need to allow yourself to express your emotions. It’s okay if you feel like jumping for joy or if you feel like crying. It’s okay if you feel content or are confused in identifying what you feel. The important part is that you are actively trying to get in touch with your emotions.

Every single day we need to reflect on our experiences and reflect on the events of the day. We need to process what happened so that we can move forward with the coming day. The less time you give to your mental health, the more stressed and tired you will feel because you aren’t taking care of your mind. If you want to prepare for tomorrow, start by taking care of your mind today.
