Who Are You Trying To Please?

I recently stumbled across this quote that my dad had told me:

“If you’re only trying to please Jesus then it releases the burden and allows us to truly be who we can be since He gives us unconditional love.”

What a relief it is to be known by God. He knows everything about you and still loves you unconditionally. No one else is going to be perfect when it comes to loving you, but God’s love is perfect.

It makes me think about the way we try to earn love and affection from others. It’s so incredibly easy to get caught up in people pleasing out of our need to be loved and to feel wanted. But why are we trying to please imperfect people? Even when we earn their love, it’s always going to disappoint. But when we lean into the love freely given to us, it releases the pressure to be perfect. Imperfect people love imperfectly but our perfect God extends perfect love.

Take some time to reflect on this quote and ask yourself: who are you trying to please?
