Be Authentic

You know how iPhones use facial recognition or your thumbprint to let you into your phone without having to input your password? The technologies we have created are absolutely incredible! But the fact that every person has a different thumbprint and different facial features is what really catches my attention.

Our thumbprints are unique. Just take a second to look at your thumb. If you look closely enough you might be able to see the grooves in your skin. Isn’t it crazy that we have a daily reminder that we are unique?

You might be thinking “I don’t want to be reminded that I’m different! I don’t want to be unique.” The hard part about being the only you is that you have no one to follow. We don’t always want to be unique because that means we have to find ourselves on our own. But the truth is, we don’t ever have to do anything alone!

God will come beside you if you let Him, and so will people. You can learn from the people around you and use that to shape yourself. But there is a difference between walking in community with others and becoming a follower. The only person we are called to follow is Jesus. If we start following the people around us, we won’t be walking originally.

The world doesn’t need a copy of someone else. The world needs you because you are made unique in every way. The world already has that person you might be tempted to follow and that person could use someone like you. I know it’s hard to be yourself in a world where influencers influence people all the time. But allowing yourself to be authentic will not only make a difference in your life but it will inspire the lives of others.

When we let God lead us to be as beautifully authentic as possible, we become the best versions of ourselves because we are living true to who we were called to be.
